Back in 1973, Bill founded the business with a handshake and cash-only payments. As part of the OMC (Outboard Marine Corporation) family, he sold Johnson and Evinrude outboard motors—but his true passion and expertise were in service. The original shop was located on Willow Avenue in Ithaca, near where The Haunt once stood. We're grateful for the customers who still remember that old location—and especially Bill and Helen.
In the early 1990s, Gene became the second-generation owner of Moore’s Outboard Center. Not long after, the Willow Avenue property was claimed by eminent domain for the City’s TCAT project. In 1993, Gene relocated the business to its current home at 3052 Dubois Road in Ithaca.
During Gene’s time at the helm, OMC was sold to BRP (Bombardier Recreational Products), which eventually discontinued the Johnson Outboards line. Gene expanded the business to include winter storage, and in 1991, his youngest son, Bryon, joined as the third generation of Moores to carry on the family legacy.
For over 30 years, Gene and Bryon worked side by side to grow the business. In 2013, Gene officially passed the torch to Bryon—and Kim—and Moore's Outboard Center became Moore’s Marine, Inc., a name that better reflected the broader range of services now offered.
As the boating world continues to evolve, Bryon remains dedicated to upholding the "old-school" values passed down from Bill, while embracing the latest in marine technology.
In early 2020, BRP announced the end of an era, ceasing production of Evinrude outboards. Soon after, Moore’s Marine proudly joined the Yamaha family. Today, we serve as Certified Technicians for both Evinrude and Yamaha, continuing the tradition that Grandpa Bill began back in 1973.
We’re excited for what’s next—and we thank you for being part of the journey.
